Orthotics Clinic: Supporting Your Child's Journey to Better Mobility

At Progressive Pediatric Therapy, we understand the unique needs of children requiring orthotics. Through our collaborative partnership with Falk Prosthetics & Orthotics, we provide a comprehensive Orthotics Clinic designed to ensure your child receives the highest quality of care. Whether you are new to orthotics or looking for a more supportive approach, our team is here to help.

Children who are patients at PPT and who could benet from a custom designed orthotic can participate in the bi-monthly orthotics clinics offered in our West Palm Beach Clinic and Falk Prosthetic & Orthotics Delray Office.

Who May Benefit from Orthotics?

Orthotics are beneficial for children with a wide range of conditions, including:

Neuromuscular disorders (e.g., cerebral palsy, spina bifida, muscular dystrophy)

Developmental delays affecting mobility and posture

Orthopedic conditions (e.g., clubfoot, scoliosis, or limb-length discrepancies)

Gait abnormalities, such as toe-walking or pronation

If your child has challenges with movement, stability, or alignment, orthotics may help them achieve greater independence and comfort.

Proper support can help children walk more efficiently and comfortably.

  • Improved Alignment

: Orthotics correct posture and joint alignment, reducing strain on muscles and ligaments.

  • Increased Independence

With better mobility and confidence, children can participate in daily activities with greater ease.

  • Reduced Risk of Injury

Properly fitted orthotics provide stability and support to minimize the risk of falls or joint damage.

How Our Orthotics Clinic Works

At our Orthotics Clinic, we focus on collaboration and personalized care, ensuring your child receives orthotics that meet their specific needs. Here’s what you can expect:

1. Two Comprehensive Visits

  • First Appointment: Evaluation by Orthotics Team

During the first visit, your child will be evaluated by a certified orthotist from Falk P/O and a skilled PPT Orthotics Physical or Occupational Therapist. This evaluation includes:

    • Assessing range of motion, strength, posture, and gait
    • Discussing orthotic options and their benefits with caregivers
    • Creating a detailed Letter of Medical Necessity (LMN) to justify the orthotic recommendation, which is sent to your child’s physician for approval
  • Second Appointment: Delivery and Fitting

At the second visit, your child will receive their custom-fitted orthotics. The Orthotics Team ensures proper alignment, comfort, and functionality. This appointment includes:

Final fitting adjustments for optimal outcomes

    • Caregiver education on wear schedules, care, and recognizing when adjustments are needed
    • Hands-on practice for caregivers in applying and removing orthotics

2. Ongoing Support

Our therapists work closely with your family to monitor your child’s progress, address concerns, and coordinate follow-ups with the Orthotics Team as needed.

Flexibility to Meet Your Needs

While we recommend the benefits of attending the Orthotics Clinic, families have the flexibility to seek care directly with Falk Prosthetics & Orthotics. However, some insurance providers may require participation in the clinic for LMN documentation. Whatever your choice, our team is committed to supporting your decision and ensuring your child receives the best care possible.
