Assistive Technology is any item, piece of equipment, product system, whether acquired commercially off the shelf, modified or customized, that is used to increase, maintain, or improve functional capabilities of individuals with disabilities. Expert speech and language pathologists, occupational therapists, and physical therapists with specialized training assist individuals in achieving their goals through assistive technology to communicate, write, play, or control their environment.

Specific interventions we use at PPT facilitate language, reading, writing and communicating with family and friends.

Speech and Language therapists make use specialized programs to promote communication. We may use language based Apps such Proloquo. Occupational therapists adapt equipment to promote accessibility to the device. We may adapt a spoon to promote independent feeding. Physical therapists use their expertise to promote optimal mobility through positioning. We may use kinesiotaping or orthotics to promote the best biomechanical alignment for function.
